Upon the tapestries of the North, artists forged a new pictorial style, one that mixed southern Italian dramatic conventions of representation of bodies in movement, with Netherlandish landscape and decorative detail (#7). This tapestry manufacture formed, as part of a broader textile economy, the basis for the establishment of the Dutch Republic. The movement of these textile images between Brussels and Italy is one part of the story of style as cultural transformer.  Now they were tossed to Neptune, an episodic veiling of the long morphology of storm. In this way, a temporal dimension is added to the image.
